Designing a Small Room
For some people, designing a small bedroom may not be as exciting as designing a spacious one. This is because a small room may not have the capacity to accommodate pieces of bedroom furniture that are usually bulky. Yet, with some techniques and creativity, one can make a small bedroom seem spacious and larger than it really is.
If your budget can allow it, change the room’s flooring. You can use wood strips, ceramic tiles, or any linear type of flooring and arranged it diagonally. As compared to linear flooring that runs perpendicular or parallel to the walls, diagonal lines will be longer. Since normally, when looking at the floor, one’s eyes follow the lines in the flooring, the floor would seem larger because of the length of the diagonal lines that run across the room. As the colors of the walls and the ceiling can also do wonders in the appearance of the room, you can make the room seem larger by painting the walls with a pale color and painting the ceiling bright white. Pale and white colors help maximize the sense of space. Avoid incorporating items with too much patterns as patterns seem to fill a room. It is advisable to use simple designs and plain curtains, rugs, bed cover and wall paper.
Since the main challenge is the size of the room, it is advisable to maximize storage places. Using the space under the bed as a storage area to keep boxes of toys, shoes, bags, school things, and other belongings will save more space rather than placing a huge cabinet or closet to accommodate all the stuff.
