Securing Sliding Glass Doors
Many residential burglaries occur starting with the felon entering the home through the house’s windows and doors. No matter how much people invest on smart security facilities costing them hundreds even thousands of dollars, burglars always seem to know some tricks to enter the house undetected.
Many people, with their confidence in their security systems and locks tend to take for granted how smart burglars can be. Whether you believe it or not, burglars can make researches and studies on how to break into homes without getting detected. The trick is this: burglars know that home owners hire contractors to build their houses and contractors usually use a certain brand for doors and windows unless another brand is duly specified by the home owner. When the burglar, making some research and tests of his own, can find a flaw in a certain brand of door or window, all he has to do left is to seek a place where there are many houses with that brand installed on them, and then, the rest would be history, including the home owner’s valuable possessions. Sliding glass doors are one of the most unsecured sections of a home. They are mainly made of glass, which is easy to break given the right amount of force, and most of the time, have poor locks. These two facts are the reason why sliding glass doors are the favorite of burglars.
The key to making your sliding glass door burglar proof is to install a secondary lock in it. Little foot bolts or a Charlie bar can do the job well and they only cost as much as ten dollars; a price anyone would be willing to pay just to keep those valuables safe inside the house.
